Thanksgiving weekend, November 27-29 will mark the return of a premiere art event in Hawai’i, the Volcano Village Artists Hui Studio Tour and Sale. Fifteen of Hawai’i’s most talented artists once again open their studios for this annual event This will offer visitors the opportunity to meet each artist, catch a glimpse of the creative process, view and purchase current artworks for personal collections or gifts, and artistically celebrate the beginning of the holiday season. Artists Hui members participating in this year’s tour will be: Lisa Louise Adams (paintings, quilts, pottery), Mag Barnaby (prints, paintings), Pam Barton (fiber works & more), Cynee Gillette-Wenner (ethnic textiles, clothing & accessories), Mary Goodrich (photography), Emily Herb (pottery & sculptural clay vessels), Zeke Israel (raku, jewelry), Chiu Leong (porcelain teaware), Liz Miller (mixed media sculpture and paintings), Michael & Misato Mortara (hand blown art glass), Ira Ono (fine arts, exquisite gifts), Debra Serrao (paintings, collage), Randy Takaki (wood sculpture) and Erik Wold (high fired functional pottery), along with guest artists Meidor Hu (mixed media) and Susumu Sakaguchi (paintings). Each of the artists spends months in preparation producing various artworks, including ceramics, paintings, mixed media sculptures, quilts, hand blown glass, photography, prints, fiber art, ethnic textile clothing and jewelry. The variety and high artistic standards of the Volcano Village Artists Hui, paired with the picturesque settings of each studio nestled in the lush rainforest of Volcano Village ensures a unforgettable experience. Each year there is something new and exciting. Dedicated to the belief that art is essential during times of economic challenge, all artists are creating smaller, more affordable works of art especially for this sale, all the while maintaining their accustomed high quality and well known distinct styles. The Volcano Village Artists Hui Tour & Sale promises, as always, to be an enjoyable and memorable event, including the chance to win one of seventeen artworks specially created by the artists. Maps for the tour will be available at local businesses on the village's main street, Old Volcano Road. Studio hours for all three days of the tour, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This will offer ample time to relax, breathe in the charm of Volcano Village, soak in the aura of creative inspiration, get acquainted with the character behind the art, and bring home affordable one of a kind art to enjoy personally and to brighten the spirit of friends and family.
