Based on the Hawaiian literary saga of Pelehonuamea, goddess of the volcano, and her younger sister, Hi‘iakaikapoliopele, Holo Mai Pele, which premiered at MACC in 1995, will once again grace the MACC stage. The first opera-length hula drama to incorporate hula, chant, drama and storytelling Holo Mai Pele is a pivotal work that changed the way hula was presented on stage. In 2001 Holo Mai Pele was aired nationally as part of PBS' Great Performances. Nā kumu hula Pualani Kanaka‘ole Kanahele and Nālani Kanaka‘ole of Hālau O Kekuhi are the co-creators and choreographers of this epic hula drama. This project has been made possible by American Masterpieces: Three Centuries of Artistic Genius, a major initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, and is recognized as an American masterwork of artistic and cultural significance.

Tickets: $12, $25, $40
