This coming June, Robin and I will get a chance to return to Hawaii. We are hoping to get a chance to retrace the steps of Robin's grandmother, Ruth Rinker Green. At a very young age, she had the chance to go to Hawaii, from her home in the midwest, to teach the children of the island of Maui.
We are planning on spending some time retracing the steps of where she taught. We are also looking into old public records of who she taught, in order to try to build a story of one teacher's experience in Paradise. In the meantime, we will be sharing other stories with you: some about her and some about us.
Our June 2010 visit will take us to two islands. We are wanting to visit Oahu again, because Robin's dad spent some time there post WW2, waiting to be transferred to Japan, to join other Marines in the post war occupation forces. If grandpa is in the mood, we want to share his stories also (we'll spare you the naughty ones!) His trip ultimately lead him from the comfort of the islands to the Chosin Reservoir, which is the place that the Chinese entered the Korean War.
The trip back to Maui will also be filled with fun. In addition to retracing some roots, we would like to go back to Haleakala. Beside the spiritual experience of being there, I also have a brand new travel book from the National Park Service. The official NPS stamp for Haleakala National Park was printed in 2008, so I am very excited to finally get to place a date/time stamp next to the picture of this beautiful place.

1. I cant wait for you to share this visit with us
Hey Ray, thats pretty cool. I love to dig into my own family past and really enjoy hearing about others family history. I like it especially when there is lots of details. Digging into your family history is like reading a really cool book. You really never know what mystery will be uncovered. I hope you take lots of pictures and video and post it.
